LA lakers wins Game 1 of their first round series against the Denver Nuggets. Gasol came in huge for the lakers as he poured in 36 points and 8 assists both carreer playoff highs.

Another contributing factor to the win was the team’s unselfish play, logging in 33 assists compared to just 20 assists for Denver. The interior passing of LA’s bigs really came in handy as Marcus Camby was often left alone to defend the basket because Kenyon Martin was tasked to guard LA’s MVP Kobe Bryant. Gasol and Co. had their way inside the paint.

Both teams are trying to break the jinx and advance into the 2nd round since neither has won a playoff series in recent years. LA hasn’t won a series since 2004 and Denver has been eliminated 4 years running. Game 2 wednesday april 23.
